7 Little Changes in Ubuntu 13.04

Ubuntu 13.04 will be released late this month, and whilst we are eagerly anticipating the cool new features that it will bring, let's not forget the smaller chances that will make our life a little be easier.

Faster Icon Reveal

If you like to pins every single app you use on the Unity, you will notice that the animation to reveal the icons in the list can be a bit slow. With Ubuntu 13.04, the icons are noticeably faster in transition.

Dash Error Handling

In Ubuntu 13.04, you no longer require to type the name of the application you are looking for letter-for-letter. It now uses 'fuzzy searching' to try and determine what it is you're looking for.

Scroll Switching

Unity 7 includes a number of ways to switch between applications. A new method introduced in Ubuntu 13.04 is 'scroll switching'. It enables the use of the scroll wheel on the mouse to cycle through open windows.

Filesystem Fill

To make it easier to see whether the trash can, SD card or external drive is open in Nautilus, the icon with the Unity bar will fill in a background color.

Tooltip Fade

Everytime you mouse over items pinned to the Unity launcher a tooltip shows up with a description label telling you what it is or what it does.

Non-Pixelated Pips

To make it easier to distinguish whether an app as multiple windows opened, the inclusion of un-pixelated pips has made it easier to do so.

Radio Dot

When more than one window of an app is open you can right click on its launcher item to see a list of open windows. If one has focus you’ll now see a ‘dot’ next to it.
So these are some of the small changes you will see in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail that will be released later this month.
