State of Origin 2012: Game 2

New South Wales 16 - 12 Queensland

It seems like Game 3 will be the ultimate decider for for will win this year's State of Origin. Queensland fought pretty hard but lost by 4 points in the end. It is now up to the next game to determine the winner. Perhaps New South Wales might actually win this year's State of Origin for once. If that happens, then Queensland's 6 year reign will come to an end. Game 3 will be an exciting game to watch!

Winter Camp 2012

During the long weekend just passed, the My Bubbletea Time team along with a few other friends went camping for three days and two nights (some people were there for four days and three nights). We had a lot of fun despite the wet and cold weather. We had hot pot and BBQ meat for dinner, and toasted marshmallows for dessert. We played around with glow sticks and Monopoly Deal. Here are a few snaps from the three day adventure.

Campfire all ready for toasting marshmallows.

More fire >:D

Ice Cream Sandwich wins Gold Prize for best platform experience at Parsons' 2012 UX Awards

Matias Duarte and team have reason to be proud this evening, as Ice Cream Sandwich has won the Gold Prize for best platform experience at Parson's School of Design's annual user experience awards show. We all demand a beautiful and functional interface on our smartphones, and Android really stepped up with Ice Cream Sandwich. As Durate's first real work with Google, it implements all the good from previous versions along with good looks and effects that make it stand out.

The video you see above was the clip reel shown to the audience, which really does embody the eye for design and simplicity that went into Ice Cream Sandwich. Congrats, Matias and team on an award well deserved!

Anime Review: Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence is the direct sequel to the original movie, Ghost in the Shell. The movie can be considered as an alternate story where Batou is more of the main character than the Major.

Ghost in the Shell 2: InnocenceSynopsis:

The heavily cyborged police officer Batou, newly partnered with the mostly-human Togusa after the diappearance of Major Motoko Kusanagi, is assigned to investigate a series of murders committed by prototype "sexaroids" - female androids created for sex.

Continuing on the prequel, the story is basically about the disappearance and reappearance of the Major whilst Batou is on a mission to investigate a series of murders committed by prototype "sexaroids". Sounds ecchi? Not really. The anime really puts this topic on a serious side and there are very little contexts in this anime that suggests otherwise. Anyhow, the story was rather linear and quite slow-paced compared to the other Ghost in the Shell series. However, this linear line hides many plot twists and deeper meaning if you analyse the movie to a philosophical level. For the average person, this may seem another action-packed sci-fi movie, but more Ghost in the Shell fans, this is a "thinker" anime that reveals hidden information of the Ghost in the Shell universe.

The art was stunningly illustrated and character animations were really fluid as expected from a movie. here were fine details on characters and background surroundings. There was also nice use of background textures and a tint of darker colours was present. The use of abstract art style in some scenes were really thought-provoking and interestingly portrayed the character's thoughts and persona.

The sound track was excellent with some nice music throughout the movie. Voice acting was perfect one again with proper use of sound effects for the different environments and equipments the characters use. No complaints here. Everything was suitable and correctly placed.

The Section 9 is back once again with the cybernetic cops and their awesome high-tech equipment. We see more developments of the characters as it leads into the anime series. Mainly though, the movie focusses solely on Batou and his investigation. The other team members are merely supporting members for the story and character development.

Overall, it was an enjoyable movie that explains more of the Ghost in the Shell world. If you are not a careful analyst of this anime, you will surely get lost in the story. The animation is quite amazing and the characters are all there. Comparing  the movie to the anime series, I thin I still prefer the anime series where the whole team is involved in a massive case; whereas this solely focusses on a single character.

It was a fast-paced action anime that contained a lot of technical jargon that the average person might not understand.

ART: 8
The art was well animated and the characters had fine detail on them.

Sound track was decent and the sound effects were widely used throughout this anime.

I would have preferred if the movie didn't solely focus on Batou; but then the movie would have been a mess.

Excitingly engaging and the action scenes were superb.

A good sequel to the original movie Ghost in the Shell. Definitely for sci-fi fans.
