Anime Review: Binbougami ga!

BInbougami ga! is what would you call a typical comedy anime that breaks the forth wall. Not only that, it parodies a number of popular anime such as Dragon Ball in order to make use laugh.

Binbougami ga!Synopsis:

At the expense of the people and things around her, Sakura has absorbed so much "happiness energy" that she has caused an energy imbalance in the world. In order to return balance to the world, the Poverty God, Momiji, sets out to take away Sakura's ability to absorb this energy. Will Momiji be able to put a stop to Sakura's absorbing abilities, or will the God succumb to her happiness?

Every comedy needs some sort of silly story and here we have a typical god vs human storyline. Of course, it isn't even serious at all except you got the Poverty God, Momiji trying to steal the "happiness energy" from Sakura in order to bring balance to the world. As silly as it sounds, the constant love-hate rivalry relationship that they share is quite amusing indeed. Every episode you will always see Momiji in some kind of scheme in order to take that happiness energy away from Sakura (and always failing to do so). The story is quite simple to understand and easy to follow; think of it as a constant brawl between "friends" with collateral damage.

The art was quite good and suited the anime perfectly. As expected from a comedy anime, you get all these crazy stuff happening everywhere, random objects being pulled out of nowhere, falling from a 30 story building yet still alive, and all those crazy happenings in comedy anime. It was all cleverly scripted and animated. The characters were full of life and visually appealing and unique in their own way.

The voice acting was quite good for most characters. I did have some minor annoyance with some voice acting in some scenes, but overall it was an enjoyable experience to listen to. The constant yelling between characters may annoy you after a while but you get used to the overly-hyped dramatic dialogue quickly. The theme songs were also quite good especially the opening song (which was quite catchy).

The anime is constantly about Momiji and Sakura fighting over happiness energy and petty things. It is quite unclear how I would describe them both. Sakura can be considered self-centered and quite arrogant (in some ways). After a while she lowers her self-esteem and comes to understand everyone around her. Momiji is quite a lazy being that just likes to get things done as quickly as possible and to get it over and done with. Of course this doesn't happen as Sakura's fortune always get in the way. Along with them are their friends, Rindou and Rsuwabuki not to mention Momoji's teddy, Kumagai. It is quite an interest cast of characters all with unique and quirky personalities.

Overall, I enjoyed this anime a lot. I started laughing hard in the very first few minutes of the first episode. This will tell you how funny and enjoyable the anime will become. There are plenty of embarrassing and funny moments to be had and the constant love-hate rivalry relationship that Momiji and Sakura have is quite entertaining to watch as well. I would say that although the anime is quite random , it is all laughable and not be taken seriously. It just defies all logic.
