Anime Review: Toaru Majutsu no Index

An action-packed anime series would be an understatement to describe Toaru Majutsu no Index. It is just simply engaging, fast-paced, and wastes no time in moving the story along.

Toaru Majutsu no IndexSynopsis:

Set in a city of scientifically advanced superhuman students, but in a world where magic is also real. Touma Kamijou’s right hand, the Imagine Breaker, will negate all magic, psychic, or divine powers, but not his own bad luck. One day he finds a young girl hanging on his balcony railing. She turns out to be a nun from the Church of England, and her mind has been implanted with the Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum - all the magical texts the Church has removed from circulation.

Review:

It is not often you encounter an anime that features science, magic, action, accidental harem and comedy. Toaru Majutsu no Index is just one of those anime that may seem corny at first but gets absolutely exciting in the end. With the exception of some cliché moments, the entire anime series is action-packed and totally awesome. So, we begin the story set in Academy City (a city of science) and Touma, a guy that always encounters misfortune- even his power called Imagine Breaker is pretty useless compared to most other esper users in the city. He is considered a 'Level 0' and the ability levels ranked up to 'Level 5'. Although his ability may seem useless, but in-fact the ability is quite strong indeed. What the Imagine Breaker does, is negates all magic, psychic or divine powers to whatever object he touches with his right hand. So with this background explained, I can move on to the real story. One day he finds a girl hanging on his balcony and it turns out this girl is on the run from pursuers in search of special texts she is carrying. So with the help of Touma, they live and defend themselves from whatever comes their way.

The art was simple well illustrated and superbly animated. The girls all looked so cute and had unique traits to them. There were plenty of humorous comic-relief moments and endless possibilities of the impossible to happen. Backgrounds and sceneries were highly detailed and there was nice use of textures and lighting effects. It was all well presented and simply stunning to watch in high definition.

The voice acting was perfect and suited the characters perfectly. I could tell apart the many different characters just by listening to their voice so there are some nice variety in voice styles and dialogue here. The theme songs were quite catchy and suited the overall theme really well. There were plenty of sound effects to accompany the frequent on-screen action scenes that seem to be endless.

The characters well quite interesting indeed with a variety of attitudes, personalties and special abilities. Each character was appealing in his.her own way and will definitely keep you occupied throughout the anime. Touma is what you would expect to be a comical "hero". Always there for others, always caring, kind, understanding yet a bit dense at times. Index can be described as a lively naive girl which cares deeply for her friends but sometimes can go overboard. As for everyone else, you will have to watch and find out their true natures for yourself!

In the end, Toaru Majutsu no Index was an engaging and entertaining action-packed anime. It did not fail to completely get my attention for the whole 23 minutes of every episode. The presentation was excellent and the characters were appealing. The anime is similar to Shakugan no Shana, The Law of Ueki, and CHaos;Head. So if you have seen any of those, you will surely find Toaru Majutsu no Index entertaining.

STORY: 8
Plenty of fan service and action scenes to keep you occupied. Story is pretty linear but the cliche moments and character interactions are enjoyable to watch.

ART: 9
Simple well detailed and superbly animated. Nothing else can be said here.

SOUND: 8
Theme songs were rather catchy and voice acting was perfect for the characters represented respectively.

CHARACTER: 8
The characters were cute and appealing. If you are "that" type of otaku, you will definitely find the accidental harem humorous here. Some characters had little impact on the main story.

ENJOYMENT: 9
I loved the action scenes and the overall story. It was explained in simple details, but really, nothing makes sense regarding what happens in the anime since it is all pretty unrealistic to begin with.

OVERALL: 8
I cannot understand why this anime was not hugely popular among many of the reviews I've read online but I found the anime entertaining to watch. It seems that whatever was not explained here or left out was answered in the sequel.

Rumour: Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S III 'coming soon'

Galaxy S III

According to Sammobile, the Samsung Galaxy S III might be getting the Jelly Bean update as early as August this year. Of course, Jelly Bean on the Galaxy S III will not look like the Jelly Bean we've seen so far, but that's not a bad thing. Samsung has a pretty good handle on their TouchWiz operating system, and whether you love it or hate it you can't deny it's feature rich and runs pretty damn well on the SGSIII's blazing hardware.

Samsung Galaxy S III with the Jelly Bean update will impress me even more with new features and polish that comes with the update. I will be sure to closely monitor any news and progress of the update.
