Anime Review: Yuru Yuri

A wonderfully cute and funny anime that will definitely entertain the typical otaku guy or the childish girl. This is none other than Yuru Yuri, a easy-going anime for those moe-fans.

Yuru YuriSynopsis:

Right after starting middle school, Akari Akaza joins the Amusement Club which is composed solely by her two childhood friends, Kyouko Toshinou and Yui Funami. Chinatsu Yoshikawa, Akaza's classmate, becomes a member after finding out about the dissolution of the Tea Club.

The Amusement Club, situated at the tea room facility since the Tea Club disbanded, has no clear purpose, being free for the girls to do whatever they want.

Review:

I can describe Yuru Yuri in just several singular words. Cute. Funny. Moe. School. Life. Now you got the picture, this is what Yuru Yuri is basically all about. Let me get into more detail. Yuru Yuri is about a group of middle school girls that decides to form the "Amusement Club". This club basically doesn't do anything except drink tea and have fun. Sounds like your typical shoujo anime right? Similar but not quite. As the story progresses in this fantastical adventure, we meet more amusing characters and their different personalities. It is just entertaining to watch them interact with each other in various ways from verbal to physical (which I will not go into detail here). Why will this anime keep you going to the end? Because of its sheer randomness, cuteness, moe-ness and hilariousness. It is all about the characters here.

The art suited the anime perfectly. The art style used here was plain and simple, especially the characters. They looked moe. Definitely moe.  Seriously, if you do not even smile or give a faint grin on your face when you see their big beady, glowing eyes then you sir, HAVE NO SOUL! The character were filled of emotions. In never every scene you will have a stupid grin on your face; that is how effective this art is. Simple, cute and effective.

The theme songs were seriously catchy; meaning that they were absolutely peppy, cute and upbeat. I instantly loved them and quickly got them stuck in my head. Even after watching the opening song I probably was still singing "Yuriyurararara yuruyuri~" in my head. That happened to the ending song as well. Trust me, if you are a otaku and a moe fan, then you'll love the songs.

Yuru Yuri is all about the characters. It is the anime's selling point. You got your main cast of characters that consist of Toshinou Kyouko, Funami Yui and Yoshikawa Chinatsu. Somehow I get the feeling that I'm leaving an important character out. Anyhow, the whole anime definitely revolves around Toshinou Kyouko. She is like your class clown, the one that is over-the-top funny, and hyperactive. Kyouko never ceases to be boring and she is quite energetic, lively and somewhat has a string attachment to Chinatsu. Yui on the other hand is the total opposite of Kyouko, being a cool and collected person she rarely displays her true emotions to anyone. Her roles mainly in the anime is to keep a look out for Kyouko as she tends to like to get over excited. Chinatsu in the other hand is your typical moe character that everyone seems to want to fuss about. Chinatsu has an instant attachment to her after Yui vowed to "protect" her from Kyouko. I think I left someone out but I just can't figure who. Anyway, the characters are uniquely cute, moe, and totally hilarious. You will instantly love the cast from the moment you start episode 1.

Overall, this was one amusing slice of life anime. I was impressed that even though the anime is a "slice of life" anime, the content wasn't that boring at all. Perhaps I was too distracted by the cuteness of the characters or the suggestive humour throughout the anime. In the end, it was entertaining, enjoyable and lovable. Best wacthed by otaku guys, moe fans, and perhaps the shoujo-loving types.
