Surprising isn't it? Who knew that Angry Birds Space would be that popular. You’d have thought everyone would be tired of Angry Birds by now and moved on to the next big thing, but tweak the concept and add “Space” to the end of its name and voila! — you’ve another hit on your hands.
Showing off the kind of statistics that every app developer must surely dream about, Angry Birds Space maker Rovio announced on its blog on Monday that the game, which launched on March 22, has been downloaded a staggering 50 million times in just 35 days.
These extraordinary figures make Draw Something’s 50 million downloads in 50 days look positively sluggish.
The success of Angry Birds Space, which is available on multiple platforms, follows in the footsteps of the equally popular earlier versions of the game: Angry Birds (with over 700 million downloads to date), Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons.
So will this trend continue? Or will it suddenly die off or be taken over by another addictive game? In the area of gaming, only the most enjoyable games last for decades.
